Meet My Mastiff

IMG_4789Do you enjoy long naps on the couch, short walks to the fridge, and using every sheet on the lint roller?

He’s tall, dark, handsome, and fluffy.

Meet my 3 year old English Mastiff: Aslan.

*For those of you that don’t know: Aslan (Ahz-LAHN) is a character in C. S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia book series. He is “the Great Lion” of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

It’s absolutely no secret that this guy has my heart. I mean, look at that face!

His greatest loves are his Dragon, sleeping with his tongue out, and being the little spoon.

One of my first words as a child was “horse”. My dad, being the crafty fellow that he is, decided to get an English Mastiff instead. As an adult, I decided I needed one of my own.

Let it be known, most Craigslist deals are sketchy. Driving 8.5 hours alone through the blustery snow of Idaho and Montana to meet for a Craigslist deal was probably not the best idea either. I met Aslan for the first time when he was two weeks old (his eyes still closed).  As I got up to begin the paperwork, I noticed Little Aslan had moved back onto the carpet where I had sat moments before.

I often say that this fluffy monster is my soulmate. I think there’s a lot of truth to that statement.

Aslan is my shadow. If you thought going to the bathroom with a toddler was bad, try having a 200 lb. dog scoot in behind you. He loves with a ferocity that most will never understand.  This particular massive mutt truly lives up to his AKC registered name: Little Lion Man of Lewiston.

There really is no love like an English Mastiff’s love. This big guy is truly one of a kind.
